Near the top of the list of movies we do not recommend as a date picture, no way no how, Wes Craven’s gut-wrencher presented a real problem for critics. Whose movie exactly is this? The producer wanted a commercially daring pornographic gore shocker. The writer-director envisioned a political scream of rage against America he considered Evil. Is the film an abomination, or an honest reflection of society in chaos?  Twenty years of revisions and extras are crammed into this three-disc limited edition of a legendary horror that, one upon a grimy time, revulsed drive-in audiences everywhere.
